Renew Australia: The Greens’ jobs-rich plan for the Central West

Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon and Greens candidate for Calare Delanie Sky will hold a press conference in Lithgow tomorrow Wednesday 22 June. They will release the Greens' Renew Australia plan for the Central West, an initiative which outlines phasing out coal and a transition to the renewable energy industry.

Ms Sky said, "The coal industry is not sustainable, and workers are losing their jobs. The world is turning to renewable energy, risking leaving Australia in the coal dust. Planning the transition to renewable energy is a sound economic and environmental move.

Greens call on Labor to commit to an independent environmental watchdog

The Australian Greens call on Labor to commit to establishing an independent environmental watchdog, rather than just saying they will explore options for one, and to commit to reversing funding cuts to environmental regulators.

Qld Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens spokesperson for the environment, said:

"We're glad Labor is moving towards adopting the Greens' long-held positions, but we are calling on Labor to commit to establishing an independent environmental watchdog rather than just saying they will 'explore options'.

Greens candidate for New England Mercurius Goldstein and Senator Rhiannon today launched the ‘Protecting our precious environment' campaign that calls for improved environmental protection for the Pilliga and Leard forests.

Greens commit to ground-breaking $2 billion fund to fix Reef water quality

The Greens today announced a plan to protect the Great Barrier Reef, including a $2 billion fund and a legal cap on run-off pollution fix water quality, as well as action on global warming and a stronger role for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

Greens Deputy Leader Senator Larissa Waters said:

“This is the critical election for the Reef.  Our best scientists are telling us that could lose the Reef within a generation unless we take immediate action on global warming and fixing water quality.

The Australian Greens have today released their plan to help homes, businesses and schools embrace solar technology: Renew Australia – repowering our homes and businesses.

 

“The Greens want to see Australia powered by 90 per cent renewable energy by 2030,” said Senator Richard Di Natale, Australian Greens Leader.
