Greens say Barnett should abandon compulsory acquisition
The Australian Greens say the WA Government should abandon any further attempts to compulsorily acquire land at James Price Point.
“The threat to compulsorily acquire land has led division amongst Aboriginal people and has undermined the concept of free, prior and informed consent,” Senator Rachel Siewert said today.
“Yet again we see another failure of due process, which demonstrates the Government’s lack of concern or consideration when it comes to James Price Point – they’re much more interested in developing their industrial hub, whatever the cost.
“The Government should work with Aboriginal people and the joint venture partners to find a better resolution to this issue- one which does not involve the location of this gas hub at James Price Point.
“Any attempts to compulsorily acquire the land should be immediately ended and alternative sites should be examined,” Senator Siewert concluded.
