Greens support nationwide campaign to scrap NT waste dump

Media Release
Scott Ludlam 2 Jul 2010

The Australian Greens have joined a national campaign to get new Prime Minister Julia Gillard to dump her Government's plan for a nuclear waste dump at Muckaty Station, near Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

The Australian Conservation Foundation has launched a major new campaign seeking community support and donations to run newspaper and billboard advertising asking for the Government to ‘Dump the Dump' - www.dumpthedump.org.au.

"We have called on the new PM to scrap the dump and work towards a consensus on the best process to move forward," said Greens Senator Scott Ludlam.

"We might not be able to run a $100 million dollar advertising campaign like the mining barons, but this doesn't mean Canberra should disregard the voices of Traditional Owners and the overwhelming majority of Territorians.

"I encourage all concerned Australians to join this campaign and send a strong message that Territorians are not alone, and that all of us can do our bit to get this process back on track," Senator Ludlam said.
