Senate motion calls for reversal of cuts to CSIRO and AAHL

The Senate voted in favour of a Senate motion moved by Greens Senator Richard Di Natale that called for the cuts to CSIRO and the Australian Animal Health Laboratory to be reversed.

The text of the motion is as follows:

The Senate -

1. Notes recent cuts to jobs at the CSIRO’s Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) which conducts research into infectious diseases such as Avian Influenza, SARS, the Hendra virus and most recently Ebola.

2. Calls on the government to reverse the $111 million cuts to the CSIRO contained in the Budget.
