If Labor abandons 2030 emissions targets, it abandons climate science

If the Labor Party dumps its current target of 45 percent emissions reduction by 2030, they will lose whatever credibility they have left on the climate crisis and prove that they’ve learnt all the wrong lessons from the election, said Leader of the Australian Greens Dr Richard Di Natale.  

“Queensland and New South Wales are burning, our firefighters and emergency responders on the ground are screaming out for support and Labor’s response is to join the climate deniers in the Liberals,” Di Natale said.

Latest IPCC report a giant SOS for our forests and land: Greens

Greens climate and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, has said the latest IPCC climate report released today is a giant SOS for our forests and land, particularly in Australia.
 
The IPCC’s Climate Change and Land: an IPCC special report on climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems report released in Geneva says that reforestation, protection of forests and a shift away from unsustainable intensive farming systems is critical to solving the climate crisis.

Government coal bullies slowing renewables transition

Greens energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt, responded to the announcement that AGL will submit to government pressure and keep Liddell power station open longer, saying the decision would make global warming worse. 

"The coal bullies in the governent are slowing down the transition to renewables," said Mr Bandt. 

"We're in record drought, the Arctic is burning and we should be phasing out coal, not forcing it to stay open longer."
