Australia inhibiting real climate action at home and abroad: Bandt

Greens climate change and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today noted that the release of this year’s ‘Mid-Year Financial and Economic Outlook’, which shows spending on climate change decreasing every year to 2021-2022, reflects the same disdain this government has shown towards real action on climate change at the recent international climate talks in Poland.

“Australia is a climate change denier at home and abroad,” said Mr Bandt.

Instead of siding with countries who are serious about the transition away from coal, Australia overnight cosied up to representatives from Trump’s climate-denying administration who were spruiking fossil fuels, joining them on a panel to promote fossil fuels and Chevron’s giant Gorgon LNG project.

Bandt welcomes Labor support for coal-fired power funding prohibition bill

Greens climate and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, has welcomed Labor’s decision to back his Coal-Fired Power Funding Prohibition Bill, introduced into the House of Representatives yesterday.

The bill will prevent the government from underwriting either new or existing coal-fired power stations and will stop any indemnification of coal-fired power stations against a future carbon price or policy to limit emissions. The government has flagged that it may provide such support.
