Greens Senator for Queensland Andrew Bartlett says Malcolm Turnbull’s pledge of millions of dollars to protect the Great Barrier Reef is a wasteful publicity stunt aimed at distracting attention away from those who continue to put the Reef at risk.

Chevron’s greedy tax fight proves it can’t be trusted with the Bight

Chevron has proven it cannot be trusted with the pristine environment of the Great Australian Bight if they refuse to play by Australia’s tax rules, Australian Greens Senator for South Australia and finance spokesperson Sarah Hanson-Young said today.

“Chevron has fought for almost 15 years against paying its fair share of tax to Australians, after being given a leg up by the Australian government. The loan to Chevron not only ripped off Australian taxpayers for years, but the money ended up offshore providing no benefit to Australia,” Senator Hanson-Young said.

State of Environment ain’t good, Government complicit

The 2017 State of the Environment report shows the federal government is putting the interests of donors and big polluters ahead of the public good and responsible environmental protection, say the Australian Greens.

“The Minister claims there are ‘bright spots’, but this report shows the dark stain of Government mismanagement of our environment,” said Australian Greens acting environment spokesperson Senator Janet Rice.
