Liberal, Labor coal and gas addiction driving up power prices

Greens Leader, Adam Bandt, has laid the blame for rising power prices on the government’s failure to make progress on the transition to renewable energy with storage and Labor’s pledge that coal-fired power stations will remain in the system just as long under Labor as under Liberal.

AEMO was very explicit that the cause of the price rise was primarily coal power station breakdowns and rising coal prices.

Arrow shooting wrong way with CSG near contaminated land

The Greens call on the Queensland and federal governments to reject Arrow Energy’s massive expansion proposal to drill hundreds of new coal seam gas wells at Hopeland in the Western Downs Region and lay 440km of pipelines in fertile farm land.
 
Arrow Energy has applied to increase its number of coal seam gas wells at the Hopeland site from six to 286. The state government previously declared the area off-limits for future coal seam gas projects after land and groundwater was contaminated by the Linc Energy underground coal gasification disaster.

Waters and Bandt announce plan to create clean energy jobs for Qld

47,570 full-time jobs a year would be created in Queensland under the Greens plan to rapidly transform Australia’s energy system to renewables by 2030.

Greens energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said: "coal is the world’s biggest cause of climate change and Australia is the world’s biggest exporter of coal with 80 per cent of what we dig up being sent overseas to be burned. Unless we phase out coal, we can’t deal with climate change and the Greens are the only party to have a plan to do it."

Greens push to establish Renewable Energy Zones across Australia

 

The Australian Greens will put in place a new Commonwealth strategy to establish establish Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) across Australia to drive the clean energy transition.

 

The Renewable Energy Zones strategy was outlined by Australian Greens energy and climate spokesperson Adam Bandt MP in an opening address to the annual All-Energy Australia Conference in Melbourne this morning.

Taylor has been a vocal critic of renewable energy, allegedly claiming that energy produced from wind farms was causing communities across Australia to “tear themselves to pieces”.
