Greens will fight looming Labor/Liberal JobKeeper cuts

Greens Leader Adam Bandt has responded to reports the government is considering Labor’s proposal to cut JobKeeper payments for people previously earning less than $1,500 a fortnight, slamming the two parties for working together to slash the pay of low-paid workers bringing home less than the weekly minimum wage.

“Labor is sticking the knife into low-paid workers and the Liberals are twisting it,” said Mr Bandt.

“This is the sell-out of the century.

Greens Party Room locks in fight against cuts to JobSeeker and Youth Allowance

The Australian Greens Party Room has today resolved to campaign to keep the raised rate of JobSeeker after the coronavirus pandemic, urging other parties not to cave into Scott Morrison’s efforts to halve income support and send over a million people below the poverty line.

“The new JobSeeker rate must be kept in full after the pandemic,” Greens Leader Adam Bandt MP said.

Bandt: We need a Green New Deal to stave off risk of recession

The Government needs to implement a Green New Deal to keep the economy moving and stave off the growing risk of recession, said Leader of the Australian Greens Adam Bandt MP.

Mr Bandt has written to the PM calling for the Government to adopt a Green New Deal, outlining three immediate measures that would boost the economy: lifting public sector wages, a $6 billion investment in the national electricity grid  and raising Newstart and Youth Allowance by at least $95 dollars a week.
