To ask the Minister representing the Minister for Resource and Energy

1. Has Minister Ferguson visited the Muckaty Land Trust in the Northern Territory.

A Save Malaysia - Stop Lynas delegation from Malaysia will speak out today at the Senate Courtyard on the controversial rare earth processing plant of Australian company Lynas at 1.30pm.

The proposed plant has been the subject of mass protests and legal action in Malaysia. The Australian Greens support Save Malaysia - Stop Lynas in their efforts.

Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon said "Thousands of Malaysians have taken a loud stance against the Lynas rare earth refinery and the radioactive legacy the plant would dump on local communities".

The Greens have called on the Federal Government to come clean on whether it is behind moves by the Northern Land Council to nominate a new site on Muckaty station for a Radioactive Waste Dump.

Senator LUDLAM (Western Australia) (16:31): I suspect that if Senator Siewert had had a few more minutes to speak on this matter of public importance on the Stronger Futures legislation, she would probably have directly addressed some of the matters raised by Senator Crossin. I found some of the accusations that came flying back across the chamber quite bizarre-because a fair bit of the enormous amount of work that Senator Siewert has done on behalf of disadvantaged Aboriginal people and Aboriginal people across the spectrum has been done in conjunction with Senator Crossin.

Will the Minister commit to delaying any declaration of Muckaty as the final location for the proposed nuclear waste site under the National Radioactive Waste Management Act 2012 until the matters pertaining to the nomination currently before the Federal Court of Australia are resolved.
