(1) Is the Minister aware of the 29 June 2012 report (ntnews.com.au) regarding the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism, Mr Martin Hoffman, raising concerns with St. Ignatius College, Riverview, New South Wales after a boarder from Tennant Creek addressed students about the Governments plan to build a nuclear waste dump at Muckaty.

Senator Ludlam asked the Minister for Resources and Energy, upon notice, on 20 July 2012:
Given the response received in the answer to question on notice no. 1889 concerning the declaration of Muckaty in the Northern Territory as the final location for the proposed nuclear waste site under the National Radioactive Waste Management Act 2012, will the Minister delay the declaration of Muckaty as the site until after the Federal Court of Australia case is resolved.

(1) Has the department provided advice to the Minister, the Ministers office or the New South Wales Government or its agencies regarding uranium deposits or the development of the uranium sector in that state; if so:
(a) to whom and when was the advice provided; and
(b) can this advice be supplied.
(2) What is the current status of Australia's involvement in the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) initiative.

An independent commission of experts should be created to decide how to deal with the nation's radioactive medical waste, the Australian Greens urged today.

Senator Scott Ludlam said the Greens had tried to legislate for an independent commission on radioactive waste but faced "a wall of dogma" from the major parties.

The Australian Greens today vowed to step up the campaign against the planned nuclear waste dump at Muckaty Station in the Northern Territory.

The Greens spokesperson for nuclear issues, Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam, said Labor and the Coalition colluding to pass the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill in the Senate today was "just the beginning of the next phase in the campaign to stop this waste dump".

Labor's attempt to pass widely-opposed nuclear waste dump legislation under the cover of their leadership squabble is cynical and shameless, the Australian Greens said today.

Greens spokesperson for nuclear issues Senator Scott Ludlam said Labor wants to pass the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill behind the fog of the leadership dispute because the law is "completely rotten".
